*Shudder*

This interesting little item dropped for my scribe the other day. At first I was fairly intrigued by the on-use effect (turn into a giant wolf! cool! I always wanted to keep that worg costume from a Howling Fjord quest) and then it hit me like a box of bricks –

Rituals of the new moon. Turns you into a wolf… aww, crap, is this a Twilight reference!?

I linked it to guild and the instant “ooOoOoOooo werewolves” and “OMG make me one!” that ensued all but confirmed my suspicions.**

I can still use the wolf effect and claim Twi-ignorance, right? >_<

In other news, you’ve probably seen the reports on that armory-datamining blog that show rogues tied with warlocks as the least-represented class at level 80. Not shockingly, of the 4 pure DPS classes (rogues, locks, hunters, mages) 3 bring up the bottom of the list, and mages came in at #6, beating only shaman out of the hybrid classes. Spin the data however you want, but clearly most players prefer to be a jack-of-all-trades…

Thanks for all the nerfs, Blizz! We rogues will be more popular than ever!…. :S

**************

I sat out the guild ToC run last night to let a friend into the raid and queued up for a random heroic with my good guildie friend Pocahontus, a priest. Within minutes our heroic popped – ToC 5-man, “already in progress.” We zoned in to find a DK tank and 2 DPS staring at the Black Knight, who awaited them in the middle of the room. Weird, I thought, their healer and another DPS left the group on the last boss?

“We got to phase 3,” the DK tank said almost apologetically. His HP didn’t seem horrendously low or anything, and I’m always willing to give people a chance, as is Poca, so we buffed up and started the encounter. I tricks’d the DK and went to town on the Black Knight, and we ended up smiting him so fast DBM recorded a new killing record. Easiest 2 Frost emblems evar!

It made me wonder though, what could have possibly prompted the previous healer and DPS to ditch the group…? I guess some things are better left unknown.

**Note: my guild is thankfully not comprised entirely of 13-year-old girls, as I likely made it sound

Altasaurus

January 10, 2010

It’s been kind of a low-key weekend in Avvy-land; I did much of the usual – a few dailies here, a random heroic there. I took my wee shammy‘s new Elemental spec for a spin in some lowbie instances (other than gnarly mana issues, it’s pretty fun) and went from 38-40 in no time.

I haven’t run lowbie instances in quite awhile. You meet some pretty interesting characters, like the French tank I ended up in Scarlet Monastary with…

imagine it with an accent

he was the only human in a party of lady spacegoats, you can't really blame him

But now my shammy has her hilariously fast-moving epic elephant mount! \o/

On a whim I decided to take my gnome mage engineer over to Gnomeregan to farm for the pet schematics (lil smoky and the pet bombling). The bombling is a guaranteed drop from Thermaplugg, but the lil smoky schematic is a random drop from Arcane Nullifiers. (Here’s a guide to farming these if you’re curious!) After about 6-7 instance resets I gave up on lil smoky for the time being and ported back to IF to craft my bombling.

if only I could sic it on people

bonus points if you know where the guild name came from!

I just don’t have the patience these days to farm endlessly for random things; I get all ADD and start shifting in my chair like a 6-year-old hopped up on sugar. I have to start doing something different lest my brain begin to implode.

Shortly before bed I queued up brand-spankin-new-80 Nikoel for a random regular-mode dungeon and was plopped square into a Forge of Souls run. The rest of the group consisted of an uber-geared protadin and his pocket tree guildie, a feralkitty, and a random DK. Due to the awesome tank and the many undead in the dungeon, lil crappy-geared Nik didn’t do too bad, pulling a respectable 2nd on the damage meter… right behind the uber tank >_> Unfortunately the RNG didn’t fall in her favor and all drops were cloth or otherwise useless for her.

Speaking of the new ICC 5-mans, when I ran Avvy’s random heroic on Saturday I found myself upon zone-in joining a HoR run in which the group (a pally tank, druid healer, lock, and mage) was already huddled inside one of the cubbyholes in the Frostmorne room. This doesn’t look promising, I thought, but the group members were friendly and the pally tank seemed well- enough geared for the instance. We started the event and took down the first few waves with ease, but as the difficulty ramped up we lost our mage, with the lock’s health dropping rapidly. By the time the boss hit it was down to me, the pally tank, and the druid healer, but we managed to eck out the win. After the obligitory rezzes and rebuffs we started the second wave, and what should the first group of ghosties drop but…

The Battered Hilt! amgamg *insert “squeee!” noises from the entire group here*

We agreed to all roll Need. Somehow the dice were tipping my way and I found myself with a scratched and dented hilt plopped into my bags! \o/

The rest of the instance went utterly smooth (I still get a kick out of the “flee the Lich King and his aura of hurty” part) and I was back in Dala with my delicious cargo in no time.

Now to decide what to do with it… I have several alts that could totally use the resulting weapon (unfortunatley there’s no dagger option for Avvy *le cry* though I guess after the recent Mutilate nerf-whipping it might not be a bad time to go combat anyway… though combat, ugh… I’m a stealthy rogue, not a rage-less warrior!) and of course there’s always the temptation to put it up for sale (can you believe the prices people will pay for this thing?!) but that feels kind of wrong… think I’ll just be hanging onto it for now.

In RL news, I finally took down the Christmas tree. It was a sad, sad day for the little spider who’d decided to make his home at the top…

time to dual spec

January 1, 2010

Reading up on post-3.3 restodrood changes it looks like haste has become the AMG NEED MORE stat of the moment. My lil resto dood Nadeau is not even close to well-geared (his gear is a curious mix of naxx and ToC10/badge stuff) but I think that just makes respeccing even MORE important for him. The spec du jour seems to be 18/0/53 for a HoTting machine. Think I also need to start running daily random heroics on him (I’ve been terrified I’ll get thrown into oculus, which I have never healed, or worse yet one of the new ICC heroics >_<)

I should mention I never dual specced this guy. Questing as a wrath-spamming restodrood isn’t THAT bad, I swear! Still, the main reason is I’m a cheapskate with my gold (my roommate, when he played wow, made fun of me for complaining about 20g items on the AH) and just didn’t want to drop the 1000g when I could do just fine slowly plugging through quests as a pathetic NE-form roots-moonfire-wrath machine. I’m beginning to think spending half my time as a fuzzy cuddly boomchicken wouldn’t be so bad, though!

Man, this toon has been the epitome of my wow-masochism – a few days ago I decided I would finally level his tailoring (which has languished at like, 195 for probably 3 years) and emptied the banks of all my toons in a rabid search for the metric crap ton of cloth it takes to level this freaking tradeskill. After much gold dumpage and a random lucky streak of skill points for a green pattern he sits now at 379, impatiently waiting for all the alts I have slowly lurching through Northrend to send him their cloth drops. (He took a brief break to pick up some novelty patterns in gnome form as well)

grind grind

don't tell me to use OneBag or Bagnon or whatever, I hates them

Gnome!Nadeau makes like a tree and leaves

Gnome druids would be awesome

Well I’m gonna log in and see what’s going on… by the way, happy new year and all that :>
