It’s been kind of a low-key weekend in Avvy-land; I did much of the usual – a few dailies here, a random heroic there. I took my wee shammy‘s new Elemental spec for a spin in some lowbie instances (other than gnarly mana issues, it’s pretty fun) and went from 38-40 in no time.

I haven’t run lowbie instances in quite awhile. You meet some pretty interesting characters, like the French tank I ended up in Scarlet Monastary with…

imagine it with an accent

he was the only human in a party of lady spacegoats, you can't really blame him

But now my shammy has her hilariously fast-moving epic elephant mount! \o/

On a whim I decided to take my gnome mage engineer over to Gnomeregan to farm for the pet schematics (lil smoky and the pet bombling). The bombling is a guaranteed drop from Thermaplugg, but the lil smoky schematic is a random drop from Arcane Nullifiers. (Here’s a guide to farming these if you’re curious!) After about 6-7 instance resets I gave up on lil smoky for the time being and ported back to IF to craft my bombling.

if only I could sic it on people

bonus points if you know where the guild name came from!

I just don’t have the patience these days to farm endlessly for random things; I get all ADD and start shifting in my chair like a 6-year-old hopped up on sugar. I have to start doing something different lest my brain begin to implode.

Shortly before bed I queued up brand-spankin-new-80 Nikoel for a random regular-mode dungeon and was plopped square into a Forge of Souls run. The rest of the group consisted of an uber-geared protadin and his pocket tree guildie, a feralkitty, and a random DK. Due to the awesome tank and the many undead in the dungeon, lil crappy-geared Nik didn’t do too bad, pulling a respectable 2nd on the damage meter… right behind the uber tank >_> Unfortunately the RNG didn’t fall in her favor and all drops were cloth or otherwise useless for her.

Speaking of the new ICC 5-mans, when I ran Avvy’s random heroic on Saturday I found myself upon zone-in joining a HoR run in which the group (a pally tank, druid healer, lock, and mage) was already huddled inside one of the cubbyholes in the Frostmorne room. This doesn’t look promising, I thought, but the group members were friendly and the pally tank seemed well- enough geared for the instance. We started the event and took down the first few waves with ease, but as the difficulty ramped up we lost our mage, with the lock’s health dropping rapidly. By the time the boss hit it was down to me, the pally tank, and the druid healer, but we managed to eck out the win. After the obligitory rezzes and rebuffs we started the second wave, and what should the first group of ghosties drop but…

The Battered Hilt! amgamg *insert “squeee!” noises from the entire group here*

We agreed to all roll Need. Somehow the dice were tipping my way and I found myself with a scratched and dented hilt plopped into my bags! \o/

The rest of the instance went utterly smooth (I still get a kick out of the “flee the Lich King and his aura of hurty” part) and I was back in Dala with my delicious cargo in no time.

Now to decide what to do with it… I have several alts that could totally use the resulting weapon (unfortunatley there’s no dagger option for Avvy *le cry* though I guess after the recent Mutilate nerf-whipping it might not be a bad time to go combat anyway… though combat, ugh… I’m a stealthy rogue, not a rage-less warrior!) and of course there’s always the temptation to put it up for sale (can you believe the prices people will pay for this thing?!) but that feels kind of wrong… think I’ll just be hanging onto it for now.

In RL news, I finally took down the Christmas tree. It was a sad, sad day for the little spider who’d decided to make his home at the top…

new stuffs

January 3, 2010

I was invited to a pug ICC 25 man with 5-6 other folks from my guild tonight. When I came in the group was on Deathwhisper and we cleared all the way through Saurfang. (I am still totally digging the Gunship battle and have to stifle the overwhelming urge to shout “weeeeee!” every time I launch back and forth between the ships.) I picked up the Heartpierce dagger which is a drop in stats for me, but has waaay better dps than the dagger I was using. Elitist Jerks seems to be up in the air so far as to whether on-proc weapons like this one will be better than their statted-up counterparts, but compared to what I had, I think it’ll be a DPS increase…  a guildie friend enchanted it for me after I got it and I was able to use it on the Saurfang fight, and pulled 8+k DPS o_O (previously only attainable by me on fights like XT and ToC  Twins) so it’s looking good so far!

I also finally gemmed up my new chestpiece (I was using T8.5 up until I got the cloak yesterday in an attempt to keep my Expertise at an acceptable level) and immediately noticed it looks a little different on me than my fellow guildie rogue (a male NE)… another classic example of Blizz’s gender-neutral armor design :P Needless to say Avvy now has her stylish black shirt equipped at all times.

is it too much to ask for armor that's actually... armor ;p

(This is what is looks like on a dude-toon)

Because yeah, being melee and all, I want to go charging into battle with my boobies hanging out.. maybe I can distract the boss long enough to steal his lewts!

Anyway, I noticed after the raid I’d finally accumulated enough Frost emblems to pick up the awesome trinket (for mutilate anyway) – so basically in a matter of 2 days Avvy’s gear went from “kinda ok” to decent!

My expertise is a little below cap at this point (23/26) but that should go up slightly once I get some T10 gear… and I think it won’t matter tooo much unless I reach the gear level where I start to approach the dreaded crit cap.

Afterward I did a few quests on my nearly-80 pally (can’t wait to have another toon at that fresh-80-kicked-from-every-pug point) and got to surf on a crocolisk.. weee!

Aside from randomly disconnecting from WoW every 20-30 minutes or so (what IS causing this?!) it was a pretty decent evening!

ICC progress

January 2, 2010

Did 3/4 of the available bosses in ICC 10 man with my guild tonight. It was my first time in there and I picked up a cloak that was so much more uber than my previous one that I equipped it right then, gemless and enchantless, and got a stat boost… >_>

I got to man a cannon during the gunship fight; that was one of the more fun raid fights I’ve done in a looong time.

rockets are fun AND safe, kids!

We beat our heads against Saurfang a few times (kept losing ranged DPS to something… I was in total tank/spank rawr rawr stab stab melee mode so I didn’t notice exactly what it was… not the adds, but maybe the heals), getting him down to around 13% before calling it a night. I DC’d on the last attempt (ever since patch 3.3 hit I’ve had this weird random disconnect problem… I nuked my addon folder from orbit and re-downloaded everything to no avail… this is another reason I’m afraid to run heroics on my healydrood) on which we may have actually gotten him down had my PC decided to leave me connected to WoW. I WILL figure you out, evil disconnection problem… /shakefist

By the way the bone spikes on Marrowgar crack me up, though he chose to spike me over and over and over (I know there’s a terrible joke looming in that and I’m so not going there)

Avvy enjoying her 4th bone spike of the encounter

Going to make another attempt at the Northrend fishing contest tomorrow today – the first time I did I stood around in Dalaran waiting for a quest, which basically killed my chances right there. I’m planning to park in Howling Fjord, hope there aren’t a crap ton of people around with the same idea, and maybe even pull off a few achievements while I’m there.
